What would you tell someone
building their very first shelf?

I have a borrowed saw, a small workspace and more enthusiasm than experience. What should I know before the first cut?

Measure the wall before the wood.

Make a cardboard version first. It is cheaper to discover that your shelf blocks a light switch before you have cut anything.
